Permit an old and faithful secretary of the Muses to approach their prime ministers with an offer of his services.

My experience in the literary world informs me that a circular letter on the annexed plan would have great force in exciting what my learned ancestor called Cacoethes Scribendi among certain dormant members of your society.

I enclose an address composed according to the rules of my above-mentioned ancestor’s celebrated treatise Περί βάθους, or the Art of Sinking, and enriched with apt quotations from modern examples. If my suggestion and my composition are admitted, the Attic Chest may receive future aid from the treasury of
