When Love and Nonsense press each postman’s side
And ev’ry urchin tries poor Peg to ride,
I too would mount, Oh! pray a moment spare
And trust the faithful creature to my care,
Untie the billet-bag that I may send
A few good wishes to an absent friend,
That ev’ry circling year to thee may bring,
Life’s dearest blessings with the early Spring.
So shall this day to mem’ry dear, restore
The sense of pleasures past, and add e’en more;
If health and all the good I wish be thine,
Joy shall return with every Valentine.
